When we visited Malaysia and Indonesia, we fell in love with their food, from Nasi Goreng, Ayam Goreng to Chicken Satay and many other dishes! So, when I received an invitation for a complimentary dinner at Chao Chao West Bridgford, I was over the moon. Chao Chao West Bridgford is an Urban Style Southern Asia Takeaway/Dine-In located in West Bridgford, Nottingham. Their menu consists of some of our favourite Asian meals!
Before our visit, we read plenty of mixed reviews on TripAdvisor and Google about the place, especially about the food. Some people moaned that it wasn’t the same as they had in Hong Kong – but yeah, obviously, it won’t be the same when you are in a different country, right?! Me and Carl we are big food lovers, but we also know that the same dish tastes different in every country, so before our visit, we weren’t worried too much.
We live in Derby, so it was only a short drive, no more than half n hour to get there. There is parking right outside of Chao Chao West Bridgford on the road. I took a picture from the car, as when we came, it was pouring outside!
I was blown away as soon as we walked in by how different the place is! It looks like a small restaurant right out of Asia; decorated in warm dark brown colours and contemporary design making you feel like you are on a different continent!
The food at Chao Chao
Stuck to wok Gyoza (Vegetable option)
I have a confession to make. I’ve actually never had gyoza as it is something I wouldn’t usually order. But I wanted to give you an honest opinion about the food I haven’t tried before, and if I liked it, so I gambled. And guess what? It was my favourite dish! Each dumpling was soft and moist, cooked to perfection to melt in your mouth, a splendid combination of vegetables and soy dipping sauce.
Jakarta Chicken Satay
We love Indonesian street food, and chicken satay is one of our favourites. So of course, we wanted to bring back those memories of when we were walking around Gili Air and trying chicken satay for the very first time! The chicken satay at Chao Chao West Bridgford was delicious, with its tender pieces of meat falling off the stick straight into my mouth. And with the peanut sauce, it tasted like heaven! I was back in Bali with every bite I took.
Plum Hoisin Duck Donburi
Duck is top of my list when it comes to meat choices. The plum hoisin duck bowl was an obvious choice. Chao Chao West Bridgford states that they are freshest, cleanest and greenest Southern Asian Takeaway and I couldn’t agree more. This duck bowl was both a healthy and tasty choice, not only full of colours and flavours, but the meat was soft with crispy skin. This dish mixed beautifully with the plum, fresh vegetables and rice.
Taki Soba Noodles Beef Brisket
It didn’t look as pretty on the plate, still, the ginger-coriander flavour was a delightful choice with the beef brisket and vegetables! With the ginger mixed with noodles, it left a zesty after taste with every bite and the meat was cooked to a whole new dimension!
Chocolate and Hazelnut Dome
This dome was divine! Full of a creamy soft chocolate-hazelnut filling, making it the perfect way to end our dining experience at Chao Chao West Bridgford. Probably not the best for the waist, but total foodporn for your taste buds!
Japanese Matcha Finger
Japanese matcha tea is stronger than regular green tea and known for its somewhat bitter taste, so having to try this cake was a must for me. Not only was the presentation with the ice cream and raspberries unfailing, but it also created a blissful combo of the matcha tea, sponge and fresh fruit! Not too sweet, not to too bitter, just right!
The whole menu was prepared with care and attention to detail and cooked to perfection. We were looked after the entire time by the lovely staff; everything was clean and with hand on heart there is nothing negative we can say about the place.
You get what you pay for, that’s for sure with the size of the dishes and the service provided. We are actually planning on visiting again soon!
