If solo travelling doesn’t excite you, maybe I can inspire you with a list of my Best Solo Date Ideas. I know, it’s not the best time right now, with the whole coronavirus going around, but once it’s all settled and the mass panic is over, I want to encourage you to go out, on your own and to truly enjoy the experience of it! After being stuck home isolating, it will be a welcomed change. I am not saying you have to always ditch your family, friends or partner, what I am saying is that sometimes Solo Date is needed.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re single or in an amazing relationship, there’s no rule saying you can’t have fun on your own. You don’t have to rely on anyone but yourself, to go out and have fun. It helps with your confidence and makes you feel super independent. Plus, if you are single, you never know who you may end up meeting!
I love my date nights with Carl, but I also love Solo Dates. Sometimes we all need that alone time, no matter our marital status. I know, at first, it does seem a little awkward, sitting at a table on your own with a glass of wine waiting for your meal to arrive. But trust me, once you overcome that ‘But what others will think’ feeling – you will end up having a great time. I travel on my own, I go to the cinema, I go for walks and even visit the SPA on my own… Because I’ve learnt to love my own company and I always end up having the best time.

This is a great way to start your solo dating journey. Cafes are one of the best places to hang out on your own, with a delicious caramel latte and an amazing book. You can literally spend hours sitting by the window and watch the world rush by. People-watching is one of my favourites activities. When you slow down and take a step back you get to see so much more. Or, you can bring that book you always wanted to read but never had the time and start it right here.
Restaurant and drink
If coffee and books aren’t for you, or you belong to the group ‘Food is Love’, then visiting a restaurant and having a glass of wine will be a much better idea. I love food and to take myself every now and then for a nice meal and a glass of wine. I can choose what I want, I don’t have to wait for others to decide (so annoying, I know!) and a glass of wine is a nice touch. I’m not going to lie, at first, I felt a little uncomfortable, but that’s what the glass of wine is for! See, you get my point? 🙂
“Love yourself first, because that’s who you’ll be spending the rest of your life with.”
A Movie Night
The other day I went to the cinema, I ended up taking a little detour by the river and soaked up the views. After that, I bought myself two glasses of wine at cinema bar and went to watch the Lion King. Because, why not? Seeing movies by yourself is a wonderful idea for a solo date. You don’t have to argue or make compromises with your family or friends on what to watch. Get that non-sharing large popcorn, ice-slush or wine, sit back and relax!
Workshop or Cooking Class
I took surfing lessons while solo travelling down in Cornwall back in August 2019, because it was something I always wanted to try. I loved it. I met people from Germany and Sweden, who were spending the summer in the South of England and learning to surf. It was great fun and not a day goes by where I don’t think about how much fun I had on my own and that I want to do it again!
I’ve yet to join a cooking class, but it’s definitely on my list. Recently I discovered that I actually love sushi and would love to learn how to make my own, so maybe this would be a good opportunity for me to start. What I am trying to say here is, if you wish to learn a new cooking recipe, or make your own lasagne from scratch, a cooking class might be the perfect solo date choice for you. Or maybe you wish to learn a particular skill, then a workshop can be ideal too!
I know this is not the most relaxing concept of a solo date. But if there’s a specific dance type you’ve always wanted to try, this might drive you to it. I love dancing, though I’m more of a dancing queen when drunk, not sober. So, when I took a salsa lesson, I quickly learnt that I had two left feet. So, this wasn’t for me, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have fun! I loved it, I’m just not very good at it. Maybe I should consider a slower contemporary dance instead?
SPA Day or a Retreat
I mean, who doesn’t love a goooood massage? Or to relax by the pool, enjoying the hot tub and unwinding in a sauna? If your kids are moaning, your partner never listens to you or work is stressing you out, why don’t you pack your stuff and treat yourself to a day at the SPA? Or, better yet, an entire weekend in a retreat? Turn your phone off and loosen up for a bit, you deserve it! There are many websites offering retreats for singles from yoga retreats and meditation retreats to food retreats…Trust me, you’re gonna love it and will end up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world! What a great solo date idea, huh?
I’ve carefully selected some of the website based on their location, so the only thing you have to do is find what you want and book it!

“It’s not your job to like me – it’s mine.” ―
Okay, so maybe you don’t want to go on retreat, maybe it doesn’t excite you. Maybe a simple weekend away surrounded by nature sounds much more exciting than a retreat. You can disconnect from all the Social Media and spend time outdoors listening to the wind and birds singing in the trees. It’s a great way to disconnect from a busy life and spend time with yourself. I know, not everyone loves nature and can’t be without the internet, but you could try it. If not, maybe a shopping trip to a big city sounds better?
I am a big fan of solo travelling. There’s no better way for me to unwind and reset my mind than going on a solo trip. I love exploring new places on my own, taking it at my own peace, mingling with the locals, sampling the local cuisines. What’s more, every time I go, I feel refreshed and more creative. Solo Travel is awesome and I wrote about the reasons why in one of my articles.
So, have you decided where you fancy taking yourself on a solo date? There are so many options, the world is a big place with so many possibilities and opportunities. You can visit a museum, an art gallery, see a concert, go on a hike, be a tourist in a neighbour city, or your own. There is so much you can do and once you get hang of it, you’ll want more, I promise that!
