Pamper Yourself: SPA Day at home

I think we all are in desperate need to do something for ourselves, especially us, women (but men are welcomed too), with all SPAs and beauty salons being shut. Maybe you are tired because your kids are sucking the life out of you, or maybe you have been sitting at home slumped into the sofa for so long you’ve given up? Whatever the excuse is, it’s time to pamper yourself and host a SPA Day at home. Because, my lovely, you deserve it!

It is time to escape, unwind, rejuvenate and refresh yourself – all from the comfort of your own home!

what are the essentials you need for your spa day at home

I love scenic candles, relaxing music, homemade hair and face masks, I even learnt how to wax my eyebrows and do my shellac nails! So, today I will share with you all my secrets to get that gorgeous silky hair and perfect manicure!

My favourite homemade body scrubs for my SPA Day at home

SPA Day at home is a great way to unwind during the lockdown

Coffee and Coconut Body Scrub:

Use instant coffee, boiling water and coconut oil. Bring the kettle to boil, mix roughly 100ml boiling water with a few tablespoons of instant coffee in a jar and leave it to cool down. Once cold, use a sieve to drain the water, but keep the coffee seeds. Mix the seeds with coconut oil until it is well-combined and store in an air-tight jar for up to two weeks. It can last longer, but I like to keep mine fresh. If it smells odd, just make a new one.

Rose and Sugar Body Scrub:

Mix dried rose petals with hot water, brown sugar and melted coconut oil in a bowl. Simple as that! I like to make my own once a week as I don’t like the rose petals going all soggy, so I don’t tend to keep this body scrub in a jar. It literally takes a few minutes to make a fresh one.

Homemade Hair Masks I love using

Coconut hair mask for silky hair:

Mix together melted coconut oil, a whole egg and almond milk. Rub it in dry hair, put a shower cap on and leave it for at least 30 minutes or overnight if you want to have super silky hair the next day. Wash as normal.

Pro Tip: If you use a whole egg, make sure you use cold or lukewarm water to rinse, else you will end up with boiled egg in your hair. Did it. Twice.

Use natural ingredients for your hair

Castor hair mask for fast hair growth:

Castor oil is well known for being rich in ricinoleic acid which speeds the process of hair growth and prevents hair loss. Mix castor oil, coconut oil and argan oil in a bowl and massage onto your scalp. Put a shower cap on to stop the heat escaping and leave it for at least 30 minutes. Wash as normal.

Pro Tip: Apply a little bit of castor oil onto your eyelashes every evening to make them longer and thicker.

How to do your eyebrows at home

In my life, I’ve ventured to a few beauty salons and beauty treatments. I paid for full-body wax (never again), my eyebrows tinted, nails extended, and toes done until I realised that I can do all of that on my own. I just have to gather a few things I need and learn how to do it.
Fast forward a few years, I learnt how to wax my eyebrows, how to do mani&pedi at home and I invested in a good epilator. Plus, I’ve always been a bit extreme with my hair, so I do my hair on my own too. Not cutting but dying, bleaching and toning.

Shaping your eyebrows is super easy. What you will need:

1. Waxing strips
2. Manicure scissors
3. Tweezers
4. Brow shaver
5. Cotton Pads and body oil or coconut oil

I use normal legs waxing strips for my eyebrows. The entire pack can last you from 6 to 12 months depending on how fast your eyebrows grow.

How to shape your eyebrows:

From the waxing sheet, simply cut out as many eyebrow-shaped pieces you think you might need. I normally use three of four. Make sure the pieces for your upper eyebrow are wider than the ones underneath. You don’t want to wax your eyelashes!

Do your own eyebrows as a part of your SPA Day at home day

Then place the cutout piece above (or below) your eyebrow, following the outer line of the eyebrow, so it will give you an idea how it will be shaped after you wax the unwanted hair. Then attach, press down and then pull. It gets less painful the more you do it, trust me.

Repeat that as many times as you need. Once done use tweezers and a brow shaver to get rid of all of the small hair the wax couldn’t. Because my eyebrows grow pretty quick, I like to use manicure scissors to dilute the hair as well. Once you are happy with your eyebrows, dip a cotton pad in oil and give your eyebrows a good clean to get rid of the stickiness.

SPA Day at home doesn't have to be difficult at all

Step by step guide to the perfect SPA Day at home:

1. Set the atmosphere. Make sure the kids are in bed or looked after by your partner or another family member from your household, so you can unwind without worry or disturbance.

2. Prepare your homemade body scrub and hair mask of choice.

3. Have a fluffy towel and a bathrobe ready.

4. Get your bath ready. Put rose petals in, essentials oils of your choice or relaxing salt.

5. Rub the hair mask in your hair and put a shower cap on.

6. Wash your face with cold water and apply a face mask.

7. Light some candles, put essentials oils into the diffuser, pour yourself a glass of your favourite wine and turn on some relaxing music.

8. Before you slide into the tub, make sure you have your glass of wine within reaching distance.

9. Slip into the tub…slow down, listen to relaxing music and enjoy.

10. Apply your body scrub.

11. Once you are done with your bath, empty the tub and have a shower afterwards to get rid of the extensive scrub and dead skin, not forgetting to exfoliate your legs. Wash your hair with your favourite shampoo and conditioner.

12. Put on some body oil and your favourite face cream, comfy gown and slippers.

Now, once you had a nice pamper and don’t feel too tipsy from the wine, maybe it’s time to do your nails? You can either choose a nice nail polish and put on cuticle oil to stop them from drying after the bath. Or, maybe it’s time to learn how to do your own shellac/gel nails?

Do your own shellac/gel nails

Doing your own shellac or gel nails during your SPA day at home isn’t that complicated at all. You will need to get a few things before you can start to make sure your nails and toes look like they were done by a professional beauty salon. I recommend checking the Petite Style Script website for her detailed step by step guide: https://www.petitestylescript.com/ultimate-guide-home-manicure-cnd-shellac/

CND Shellac is great and easy to use and make your nails look like from a professional beauty salon

Pro tip: Best time to cut your nails and toes is straight after the shower or a bath, as the nails are soft and easier to cut. It applies to cuticles too, if you need to push them back.

Pamper Yourself: SPA Day at home isn’t that complicated!

The choices are endless when it comes to pampering yourself. You can swap wine for a fresh-squeezed orange juice or water with lemon and mint, or instead of relaxing music, you can listen to your favourite podcasts. If you like massages, you can ask your partner to give you a nice massage when the kids are in bed, or you could have a couple’s SPA day at home together! There are so many possibilities, find your perfect fit and I hope that my SPA day at home ideas inspire you to get relaxed and refresh your soul! You deserve it!

Until next time,

Karina x
